Reviews of Old Rogue Shiraz
2016 Old Rogue Sellicks Hill Shiraz
Wine Orbit - 5 stars
Rating: 94/100; Drink By: 2026; Price: $29.00; Alcohol: 14.0%
Gorgeously ripe and fabulously expressed, the bouquet shows blackberry, dark plum, cocoa, toasted hazelnut and mixed spice aromas, followed by a wonderfully weighted palate that is plump and fleshy. The wine offers terrific fruit richness and intensity, beautifully framed by velvety texture and supple tannins, leading to a lingering delectable finish. Nov 2018.

The vintage had various issues, but cradle of hills has done well with this wine. It's got both regional and varietal signatures, with blackberry and plum fruit, ripe tannins and the near-obligatory dark chocolate. It is slightly roasted, but that's nitpicking at this price.

Only 120 cases made, and it includes a little Grenache and Mataro.
Pepper, star anise and clove spice, blackberry, a bit earthy and mulchy, but generally you'd say it smelt sweet and spicy. Medium bodied, fresh, blackcurranty and spicy with a good lively feel to it, light grainy tannin sits on top of the wine a little, but it's good to drink and the vintage has blessed it with a number of positive attributes – spiciness, charm and vivacity. Also, the oak is right in the background and it does not feel pumped or overly manipulated. Good. Like it a lot. Maybe the finish is not 91 points, but other elements compensate.
